The Godfather Love

Last week, I finally got to watch Mario Puzo’s The Godfather 1, 2 & 3 and at the moment one of my favorite movies..It is a classic and one of American Film Institute’s Top 10 and tops Entertainment Weekly as the greatest film ever made.  This is not a review in any way since you can find it all over the net. I just want to write about my ongoing crush with Al Pacino aka Michael Corleone. He is really handsome and the dark look and expression that he has could make you believe every word that he has to say just like Kay did.  I envy Diane Keaton for his on/off relationship with him. Too bad they didn’t end up together. Everything in the movie was put together even the soundtrack. Now Mi Amour constantly hums “Speak Softly Love” & “Promise Me You’ll Remember.”  I would want to read the novel now and know more about Michael’s character because i think it is so “bitin” and I wonder why it took them so long (18 years since Part 1) to make the Part 3 since Michael is just starting to be the Godfather in Part 2. Anyways, I really can’t get enough of this movie. Every bit of this movie has story and landed on the famous list. I will definitely get the DVD box set soon..

This is one of the famous Michael Corleone quotes:

”I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.”

27 Bridesmaid Dresses v.02

In my previous post, I’ve featured 5 dresses that I would like to wear on my bestfriend’s wedding in December. Here are some new gowns I’ve selected from Jim Hjelm, designed by Francesca Pitera. She has 2 collections (Occasions & Just Tea’s). As you can see I love strapless, ribbons, lace, ruffles and simple cut gowns. It is simple, romantic but exudes glamour. I hope she finally decides as there are so many to choose from every collection.

Going ECO and Fashionable

Ever since Anya Hindmarch’s “I’m not a plastic bag” phenomenon, designer labels started launching their own versions of environment friendly bags. Organic, canvas, jute and reusable materials became the ”IT” bag as a campaign to be aware of our surroundings.

We go grocery shopping on a weekly basis at Carrefour and we pack atleast 7 plastic bags, so that’s a lot of plastics in a month.

I’d be making my small contribution from now on by using alternative grocery bags. One that is foldable and easy to tote around. Take you pick.

1. Totes with Quotes

2. String Market Bag - 100% SKAL certified organic cotton net.

3. Produce Bag - Made with lightweight organic cotton.

4. Gecko Koren Recycled Bag made from rice bags. Made in Vietnam.

5. This is my favorite. I asked my sister to get me one. It is made with heavyweight natural cotton. It reminds me of Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys song of the same title. Cool huh, I can’t to rock this bag.

By using these arm candies, you are not only contributing in saving the environment but making a statement and encouraging every fashionista to make it a Must Have in your bag collection. Remember, it doesn’t have to take a designer label to get your attention; these are priced reasonably and will not dent your pockets or fall in line for hours just to get them.

Love your Planet!!!

XOXO

My new loot!

For my weekend wrap up, we went to the mall to buy Nine West Jobilyn gladiators in black that I’ve been eyeing for some time now. I really like to get the multicolor but they don’t have it in my size.

Haven’t worn it yet but I know this will go with most of my outfits. This style is really a classic and a must have in your growing shoe collection. I’ll post some pictures when i get to wera them.

Here’s a peek on other styles.

Rachel Ray’s fashion faux pas

I loved watching Rachel Ray’s 30 Minute Meals on The Food Network before it was co-produce by Rachel & Oprah - Harpo Productions. It was too commercialized now much like a variety show and not a cooking show.

Last April, Dunkin Donuts signed Rachel Ray as its brand representative to promote “better for you” food and beverage campaign. The airing of ads on Dunkin Donuts website caused a lot of stir and just recently the ads were pulled out by Dunkin Donuts. The reason….

 Her Scarf…..

Dunkin Donuts Executives has this to say….

“In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.”

As a resident here in UAE, the guthra is the norm and part of the Local Emiratis National Dress. Therefore, it is traditional & common sight since it is part of their daily oufits. Emiratis wore kandura which is an ankle length garmet with long sleeves usually in white and guthra as their headpiece to protect them from the hot climate & blown dust/sand. It is usually a red & white pattern or plain white.

Nowadays, these scarves are made into a fashion statement. The pattern draws inspiration to various fashion pieces.

It may be a political issue but as responsible people, we shouldn’t give out comments on the basis of a particular pattern. Often times, one’s sensitivity and judgements seemed like barking at a wrong tree. Dunkin Donuts claims that the scarf is of paisley print pattern. So why not show the world the whole piece. I mean, why would give in to false misconceptions. C’mon, it doesn’t make one an advocate or a  terrorist by wearing a scarf or these clothes just like that.

Mi Amour bought this blue scarf like a guthra at H&M.

Think and be open minded. Be responsible on your wardrobe choices and when making a statement.

The Holiday

I’m so looking forward to our annual vacation this coming December. I’m planning to call Emirates Airlines next week for our bookings to avoid the rush and high ticket prices (well, the company pays, so what the heck!).

Aside from BFF T’s wedding, which is going to be fun, my big sister’s family from Cali will spend the holidays sa ‘Pinas. So it’s kind of a reunion for us magkakapatid since my lil bro and I (with Mi Amour) is here in Dubai. We will head over down south to Boracay. I’ve emailed a couple of resorts already but no response yet. Then I’ve browsed Cebu Pacific for the P1 peso fare but no luck, tapos na pala ang promo. BFF T got lucky she managed to snag tickets on the last day.

Then off to the magical world of HK Disneyland via Macau. This one of course is for my lil girl, Isabel. She wants to meet Cinderella and Ariel, I hope she gets to see the Disney Princesses. Aside from HK tour, we get to see Macau’s historical sites and casinos. It is going to be a lot of planning (on schedule & finances) so as to get the best fares/hotels and a lot of shopping but not comprising our comforts naman.

This is going to be fun, sun, and magical holiday for us.
