Rachel Ray’s fashion faux pas

May 29, 2008

I loved watching Rachel Ray’s 30 Minute Meals on The Food Network before it was co-produce by Rachel & Oprah – Harpo Productions. It was too commercialized now much like a variety show and not a cooking show.

Last April, Dunkin Donuts signed Rachel Ray as its brand representative to promote “better for you” food and beverage campaign. The airing of ads on Dunkin Donuts website caused a lot of stir and just recently the ads were pulled out by Dunkin Donuts. The reason….

 Her Scarf…..

Dunkin Donuts Executives has this to say….

“In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.”

As a resident here in UAE, the guthra is the norm and part of the Local Emiratis National Dress. Therefore, it is traditional & common sight since it is part of their daily oufits. Emiratis wore kandura which is an ankle length garmet with long sleeves usually in white and guthra as their headpiece to protect them from the hot climate & blown dust/sand. It is usually a red & white pattern or plain white.

Nowadays, these scarves are made into a fashion statement. The pattern draws inspiration to various fashion pieces.

It may be a political issue but as responsible people, we shouldn’t give out comments on the basis of a particular pattern. Often times, one’s sensitivity and judgements seemed like barking at a wrong tree. Dunkin Donuts claims that the scarf is of paisley print pattern. So why not show the world the whole piece. I mean, why would give in to false misconceptions. C’mon, it doesn’t make one an advocate or a  terrorist by wearing a scarf or these clothes just like that.

Mi Amour bought this blue scarf like a guthra at H&M.

Think and be open minded. Be responsible on your wardrobe choices and when making a statement.

The Holiday

May 22, 2008

I’m so looking forward to our annual vacation this coming December. I’m planning to call Emirates Airlines next week for our bookings to avoid the rush and high ticket prices (well, the company pays, so what the heck!).

Aside from BFF T’s wedding, which is going to be fun, my big sister’s family from Cali will spend the holidays sa ‘Pinas. So it’s kind of a reunion for us magkakapatid since my lil bro and I (with Mi Amour) is here in Dubai. We will head over down south to Boracay. I’ve emailed a couple of resorts already but no response yet. Then I’ve browsed Cebu Pacific for the P1 peso fare but no luck, tapos na pala ang promo. BFF T got lucky she managed to snag tickets on the last day.

Then off to the magical world of HK Disneyland via Macau. This one of course is for my lil girl, Isabel. She wants to meet Cinderella and Ariel, I hope she gets to see the Disney Princesses. Aside from HK tour, we get to see Macau’s historical sites and casinos. It is going to be a lot of planning (on schedule & finances) so as to get the best fares/hotels and a lot of shopping but not comprising our comforts naman.

This is going to be fun, sun, and magical holiday for us.

All about Moi

May 21, 2008

‘Got this post at Friendster…Link me so I can know more about you too…Enjoy!

I AM….a dreamer, perfectionist, hard working and sometimes a worry wart.

I AM NOT…musically gifted

I WANT….to finally build the house as planned and do the Interior Design

I HAVE….a daughter back home who I missed so much

I WISH….that I can teleport or have thousands of airmiles to be with Isabel now

I HATE….liars, arrogant, free loaders and pretentious make believers

I FEAR….rodents, anything that crawls, gun,darkness

I SEARCH….for eternity..the rationale behind all things and how to live life the way you want it to be

I WONDER….if I would be 16 again & be making the right choices

I REGRET….being rebellious over nothing and not having taken education     seriously…being too critical when times were already difficult.

I LOVE….my Family & my Life’s journey

I ALWAYS….pray & thank God for everyday’s blessings

I DANCE….with my heart on my sleeves

I SING….while I’m driving and whenever I’m bored

I CRY….because I’m a Drama Queen

I WRITE….love letters and anything under the sun; names that I like

I WON….God’s grace & salvation; Mi Amour’s heart

I AM CONFUSED….on Mathematics

I NEED….a big time paycheck and a Hermes Kelly to go with all the cash

I SHOULD….start creating a financial portfolio; start planning & saving for our Holiday

THE LAST THOUGHT YOU GO TO SLEEP WITH IS….”God, I miss Isabel.”

A picture is worth a thousand words

May 14, 2008

Mi Amour got his new baby, a Nikon D40x; there is a story behind how he got it but thanks to his colleague Jeff for allowing it to happen. I can’t describe Mi Amour’s excitement to finally having and rocking it. I got excited too that I printed out overview reading mats for me to navigate that intimidating gadget. He said that the first snap would be moi..bring it on! :)

As the infamous saying goesA picture is worth a thousand words.”

This phrase has come a long way with different variations used by editors, writers, artists and philosophers. Essentially, every picture has its own story to tell. Think of Natalie Portman’s picture in the movie Closer. She was heartbroken when she asked to be photographed by Julia Roberts.

I like being photograped ever since I was a lil’ girl. I remember during my elementary days, we always go to this studio to have our pictures taken in soft lens (for blemish free look), then we would ask for blow up and wallet size copies for our friends with matching dedication ha. That was fun..But when you look at the pictures now with all that mega poses, that is what you call FUNNY!!! I really want to have my picture taken by a PRO as I really enjoyed the time posing for Joray Katigbak during our wedding. I hope I can have portraits that tells something extraordinary and full of character. So much that you can decipher the real me.

I hope Mi Amour captures stunning and enigmatic portraits so that everybody can have a look and define what is beyond the picture that incited him to snap.

Mother’s Day

May 11, 2008

I greeted my Mama today and so with the rest of my mommy friends. I received greetings also from friends. Isabel greeted me as well and I got teary eyed when she said it (“Happy Mother’s Day Mommy”) perfectly. OMG, I really miss my anak.

I’ve been celebrating Mother’s Day with Isabel back home but when I started working overseas, this is the 3rd Mother’s day that I am away from her. I really missed being a mom to her. I can’t wait till she comes here so we can enjoy these celebrations together as a family..Soon anak, malapit na 2009.

Happy Mother’s day to all. Let us keep our home full of love and laughter.

27 Bridesmaid Dresses

May 8, 2008

I’m in search of a bridesmaid dress at the moment since bestfriend T is getting married on December. She asked me to finalize what I have in mind since planning a wedding overseas is kind of hard. They’re currently residing in KSA and I am in Dubai, I’m afraid I will not have ample time for the fiitings as the wedding will be in the Philippines. I should have atleast a week to prepare and schedule fittings.

So it’s going to be a simple cut dress but elegant. She’s planning for an outdoor wedding and what I have in mind is a flowy and strapless dress with flower details and pickups on skirt. I’ll be posting 27 dresses I would love to wear so check back soon. For now, here’s what I have in mind. Hopefully, bff T will finally decide and approve it so I can start looking for the right accessories.

Some kind of wonderful & a Bday

May 1, 2008

It was B.Bro’s bday last Tuesday. We had some dinner and booze at Jules Bar in Le Meridien Village.

with Stan (bday.boy)

Jules Bar Satisfaction Ratings:

Entertainment  = 5 stars

Domination Band kickstarted the night with R&B songs, still pleasant to the ears followed by Multivitamins Band. They were soo funny and we had a good laugh not to mention he made fun on the audience.

FOOD & BEVERAGE = 4 stars

We had the Mexican Platter, another platter that I forgot the name and Crispy Pata. They had Kilkenny’s for the booze (which by the way an Irich cream ale and has stonger taste)  and I tried the Apricot & Mango Martini followed by Smirnoff Ice and a tea which by the way is free as it was their Ladies Night.

Service = 3 stars

The service was pretty slow…slow…slow…We ask kabayan for our drinks  a whole lot…Really.

Overall, it was ok and we had fun. I even took photos of the couple who danced when their theme song (What a Wonderful World) was sung in upbeat sorta bossa version by the band. They were from New York having a vacation here in Dubai and I think they were in their seventies, isn’t that cool. They still get to date and enjoy life as a couple.

What a wonderful world…..
