And my Mama named me Minerva..

Rachel Ray’s fashion faux pas

I loved watching Rachel Ray’s 30 Minute Meals on The Food Network before it was co-produce by Rachel & Oprah – Harpo Productions. It was too commercialized now much like a variety show and not a cooking show. 

Last April, Dunkin Donuts signed Rachel Ray as its brand representative to promote “better for you” food and beverage campaign. The airing of ads on Dunkin Donuts website caused a lot of stir and just recently the ads were pulled out by Dunkin Donuts. The reason….

 Her Scarf…..

Dunkin Donuts Executives has this to say….

“In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.”

As a resident here in UAE, the guthra is the norm and part of the Local Emiratis National Dress.Therefore, it is traditional & common sight since it is part of their daily oufits. Emiratis wore kandura which is an ankle length garmet with long sleeves usually in white and guthra as their headpiece to protect them from the hot climate & blown dust/sand. It is usually a red & white pattern or plain white.

Nowadays, these scarves are made into a fashion statement. The pattern draws inspiration to various fashion pieces.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It may be a political issue but as responsible people, we shouldn’t give out comments on the basis of a particular pattern. Often times, one’s sensitivity and judgements seemed like barking at a wrong tree. Dunkin Donuts claims that the scarf is of paisley print pattern. So why not show the world the whole piece. I mean, why would give in to false misconceptions. C’mon, it doesn’t make one an advocate or a  terrorist by wearing a scarf or these clothes just like that.

Think and be open minded. Be responsible on your wardrobe choices and when making a statement.

The Holiday

I’m so looking forward to our annual vacation this coming December. I’m planning to call Emirates Airlines next week for our bookings to avoid the rush and high ticket prices (well, the company pays, so what the heck!).

Aside from BFF T’s wedding, which is going to be fun, my big sister’s family from Cali will spend the holidays sa ‘Pinas. So it’s kind of a reunion for us magkakapatid since my lil bro and I (with Mi Amour) is here in Dubai. We will head over down south to Boracay. I’ve emailed a couple of resorts already but no response yet. Then I’ve browsed Cebu Pacific for the P1 peso fare but no luck, tapos na pala ang promo. BFF T got lucky she managed to snag tickets on the last day.

Then off to the magical world of HK Disneyland via Macau. This one of course is for my lil girl, Isabel. She wants to meet Cinderella and Ariel, I hope she gets to see the Disney Princesses. Aside from HK tour, we get to see Macau’s historical sites and casinos. It is going to be a lot of planning (on schedule & finances) so as to get the best fares/hotels and a lot of shopping but not comprising our comforts naman.

This is going to be fun, sun, and magical holiday for us.

Weight of what was

The “weight of what was” is actually a Ghost Whiperer episode title. For me, somehing else haunts me..My weight!! Yup, tried to weigh myself the other day and I was shocked! Really shocked at what came out. I gained so much weight. I remember before I got pregnant I only weighed 85lbs. having such a petite frame and I weighed 125lbs. until I gave birth. I immediately lost that pounds and from then on I was 95lbs. until the day I weighed myself..102lbs..

Now, how can I lost that extra pounds since I really can’t last a day without rice and with my personal chef (aka Mi Amour) cooking I don’t think I can do it.  But I guess I’ll start eating healthy this time by:

-consume half a cup of rice only

-drink lots of water

-fruit juice instead of soda, tea and coffee

-cut down on meat opt for fish and veggies

-fruits for dessert instead of chocolates

-muesli instead of fudge brownies (Mi amour’s specialty, oh my gosh!)

And this weekend, I will check some running shoes. I’ll start by jogging my way to slimville again as the bulges are coming to get me..

What I’m listening to…

I’ve been listening to this song for a week now after watching a Smallville episode “Hero”. The scenes when the song was played really fits esp. when Lex Luthor closes the door and behind him was Kara.

Back to the song, I didn’t know it was quite old as this was released in 2006 and was then a big hit. It was remixed by Timbaland who added certain drum beat that made it more serious, added depth and very emo. Actually, there’s not much difference but the hype in YouTube was phenomenal, it garnered 48 Million views. I hope this song will not be One Republic’s one hit number as Ryan Tedder, the bands lead vocals and writer (who looks like BenMcKenzie of The OC) is really cute.

My Own McDreamy=Ryan Gosling

yea, it’s true, the best things in life are free.

Ryan Gosling and I had a thing. He introduced me with his parents and same with me. We were discussing about how we would call each other, like babe, sweet, honey…And he was really sweet that night.He has this look that makes you weak, voice that makes you want to listen and snuggle in the couch all day, eyes full of emotions, a body that you can linger to and a smile that says everything’s going to be alright..

Poof….I realized I was dreaming. The alarm went on and damn it. I was really pissedI don’t want to go out of bed still as I am savouring every tinnie tiny details of our brief affair…..Haha, nice try…I was on my best mood that day esp. in the office. I was smiling all day and I can’t stop Googling Ryan Gosling. I checked on his bio, photos, movies and all sorts. Mind you, nagtatrabaho din po ako. I’m online if I have the luxury of time to do it. Pero, it was Ryan’s day..I’ve looked every article of him on the web. OMG, I realized I was a stalker that day..You can ask me anything about him even trivial things. He joined Mickey Mouse Club together with JT, BS and CA and now he has a band named Dead Man’s Bones. You can sample their singles at their myspace site. They don’t have an album yet but he says someday they will. I’m still finding for ways to get hold of his two singles to put in my Ipod and I’m seriously watching every movie that he made.

Ryan is so hot, sexy and one smart guy. He’s definitely in my Notebook. I can go on forever about Ryan Gosling but one thing is for sure..

Isabel’s Birthday

Isabel turns 4 today. It’s her First day in school too. Everybody’s excited. I am excited. I waited for this so long and I wasn’t able to bring her to school. Gosh, Dad and I  were not able to celebrate the occassion with her. For years, I’ve been planning all the parties for Isabel. Now, Mama organized for the occassion. Family and friends were there to celebrate.

Dad and I woke up at 5am to greet Isabel. It was 9am back home. Dad sang a Happy Birthday song for her.

Mama brought the food to school. They had spaghetti, chicken and fruit juice for the kids and teachers after they sang Happy Birthday to Isabel. Mama said Isabel cried and asked her to stay inside the classroom.

 Happy Birthday Isabel. We miss you. We love you.

Missing my Part

Today is Orientation Day for parents at Learning circle. This is just one of the many occassions I missed as a mommy to Isabel. Mama was there with Isabel. They discussed about school policy, food and child supervision. Good thing the school allowed Isabel to celebrate her 4th Birthday in class esp. it’s their First Day of school. She’s in Class P1.

Moments like these passes by with a wink of an eye especially the significant ones. I felt deplored over the situation. We can’t be the parents that we should be because of the distance. I feel sad that we’re not together as a family at the moment but I always keep in my mind that “It’s not only Us” that is separated. I know Isabel’s growing up with grace, intelligence and character that makes her beauty shine. She is an inspiration to us. 

 We love you Isabel.
